5 Inspired maternity shoot ideas that don’t involve the beach
For the mama-to-be whose intrigued by maternity boudoir
To live in the moment is to make memories – and capturing beautiful, timeless maternity photos is no exception for many mama’s, whether it’s their first pregnancy or third. Sweatpants and breathlessness aside, there is a divine femininity in choosing to celebrate your pregnancy with a touch of boudoir.
Here are 5 of our favourite maternity shoot ideas that are boudoir-inspired and completely unique.
Idea #1 – An afternoon outdoors
Traditional outdoor maternity shoot ideas often involve the beach, however depending on the time of year it can be a little too cold and windy for lingerie and lace robes. Instead, afternoon shoots outdoors (in a field, park or meadow-like clearing) offer a soft, diffused light that works beautifully for maternity photos all year round. We can explore locations with trees to create a dappled effect and play around with lingerie and robe pairings to give a whimsical boudoir vibe.
Idea #2 – Play with colour
Maternity boudoir can be as revealing or clothed as you wish and playing with colour is a fun option, whatever you wear. Pink or blue tulle, sheets or lace can be draped and held as part of a late-pregnancy gender reveal that feels feminine and embodied. Playing with colour is also an expressive way to step away from traditional creams, whites and neutrals that are often used in maternity shoots.
Idea #3 – Classic black & white
The contrast of black and white images will create beautiful shadows and highlights around your growing bump. They feel timeless and are a safe option for prints since they can be displayed in your home even if your decor and style changes with time.
Idea #4 – Less is more
Opting to wear your favourite basics (like black or white lingerie) coupled with shadowy backgrounds make for an intimate, less is more maternity shoot idea. These photoshoots tend to be one of my favourites because we can focus on your belly, skin and movement without any additional props or colours to distract.
Idea #5 – Bump focus
No maternity shoot ideas post would be complete without some bump photo inspiration. Creating a gallery where your bump is the focus and adding in details such as outfit changes, shadows and intricate lingerie will ensure a subtle boudoir-feel even if you are otherwise fully clothed.
However you choose to capture your pregnancy, all we encourage is that it reflects your personality and gives you the opportunity to feel feminine and comfortable.
Our maternity boudoir photoshoots focus on cultivating self-love throughout your pregnancy and celebrating your body through the ebbs and flows of growing your baby.
