Boudoir photography meaning – Divine femininity, intentional self love or something else altogether…

What is boudoir photography?

Boudoir photography meaning: is it raunchy? Is it to come alive in front of a camera? Is it a sensual experience? Is it something to be shared, done alone or gifted to someone special? Or is it something else entirely?…

Having spent the last six years photographing women in my quiet Maitland studio, my answer to “what is boudoir photography?” is likely different to most photographers. Because I believe boudoir photography meaning lies in the experience.

What shapes a transformative boudoir experience lies in the before, during and after – giving women and feminine souls a feeling that transcends photos, poses and gift-worthy prints.

The Before

This little blip in time is what gives boudoir photography meaning it’s beginning. You’ve seen boudoir photographs, perhaps googled ‘what is boudoir photography?’ and you’ve definitely researched countless boudoir photographers to see what their values are.

But it’s scary. The idea of baring all in front of a camera, choosing outfits, to-tan-or-not-to-tan and then at the end of it all – what if you hate the photos? What if your tummy folds and your thighs squish together and you get those little crinkles at the corner of your eyes every time you burst out laughing?

To all of that I say, yes my dear, what if?

What if your gaze softens and you let go of the criticism? What if you lean forward and your tummy squishes and the delicate lace of your bodysuit catches it gently? What if the sun kisses your skin and you throw your head back in delight? Not because you’re a supermodel – but because you chose to undress the old version of yourself, in favour of becoming YOU.

The act of letting go and choosing yourself is part one of giving boudoir photography meaning.

The During – Discovering the true boudoir photography meaning

This is the best part. Whether you choose a Pure Boudoir or Full Boudoir Suite package (you can learn about the difference here), the experience is going to elicit the same emotions. We’ll have two uninterrupted hours together to explore different lighting, outfits, poses and expressions.

Which is where you’ll discover the true boudoir photography meaning – letting go, melting into the artform that is your body, connecting with your divine femininity and doing it all with intention.

Because regardless of what the photos actually look like (which, I promise, they will look divine!), choosing boudoir photography is an act of self love. It’s a way to quieten your inner critic, choose self compassion and celebrate the parts of yourself worth adoring

If you are particularly nervous about the theme of your photoshoot, outfits or posing, I really encourage you to indulge in the The Full Boudoir Suite Experience package because it allows us to get to know each other beforehand in a detailed planning session. This can really settle any nerves and allow you to feel excited about your session.

The After

Every client describes it a little differently – a high, riding a wave of excitement, euphoric, on cloud nine, confident and even blissful. Transformation is at the heart of boudoir photography meaning.

It allows you to transform how you feel about your body, how you look at yourself in the mirror and how you carry yourself. It can be likened to facing a fear head on – without any of the scary rollercoaster or sky-diving danger attached!

And it also leaves you with a lot more than jumping out of a plane ever will… It leaves you with a feeling that you’ll carry forever. After you’ve chosen your final photos, after you’ve received your album, after you’ve gifted a few to your loved one – you’ll still feel changed for the better.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
