When Is The Best Time To Have A Maternity Boudoir Shoot

A pregnancy journey is often filled with excitement, anticipation and it serves as the beginning of a lifetime of new memories with your growing family. You’re about to welcome a new life into your life and regardless of whether it’s your first pregnancy or third, it’s always a unique experience.

As a mum to be, you already know that your pregnancy journey is special and it is a moment in your life that is unique, remarkable and definitely something to remember.

An amazing way to freeze this moment in time is through a maternity boudoir shoot! As a New South Wales-based boudoir photographer, my goal is to provide my clients, beautiful pregnant women like you especially, an amazing boudoir experience - something that you will remember and cherish for a very long time. It’s not just a photoshoot, it’s a celebration of your breathtaking strength and grace as women and as mothers.

One of my absolute favorite things to do is capture the divine energy radiating off an expectant mother, it’s so amazing! If you’re into the idea of dipping your toes to maternity boudoir but is clueless when you should book and what other things you need to consider, here’s a quick guide!

Timing is up to you

Most seasoned photographers recommend booking your maternity boudoir photoshoot within the sweet spot of 28 to 36 weeks (seven to eight months along) as this is usually when there’s a good mix between the size of your beautiful baby bump and your energy and comfort level.

Booking earlier than 28 weeks may mean your belly is not as round and big as it would be if you book later. If you want a rounder, bigger pregnancy bump, booking later maybe your best bet. However, booking later may also mean you’re not as energetic as you would be in the earlier days of pregnancy.

In other words, only you know your body and the level of comfort you are feeling during your pregnancy. While 28 to 36 weeks is the recommended timeline, I’m happy to work with you and agree on a date that you feel most comfortable with.

One thing is for sure though, regardless of the date you pick, I can guarantee that you are going to look amazing!

Pregnancy conditions

One very important thing to consider when deciding on a schedule for your shoot is your pregnancy condition. If you have a high-risk pregnancy, or if you are carrying multiples, you may want to schedule your session sooner than later to ensure that you steer clear of possible complications. Your OB-GYN is the best person to ask about this as she can help you assess the risks and give you pointers to consider.

As a boudoir photographer with a lot of experience working with pregnant women, one of my priorities is your safety and of course, your little one’s. I will guide you with the poses and make sure that you are not only comfortable but also safe during our entire session.

Preparations

Pregnancy is such a busy time in your life. From doctor visits, ultrasound appointments, check-ups, buying baby essentials up to make sure the nursery is set up nicely, you obviously have a lot of things going on. This may leave you exhausted with barely enough energy to attend to the things you need.

For this reason, you may want to schedule your session earlier to make sure that you have enough time and energy to really prepare for your shoot, both mentally and physically.

If this is your first time dabbling into a boudoir photoshoot, you may want extra time to look at some pegs and photo inspirations that you can use as references. These will help you familiarize yourself with the intricacies of boudoir and how you want your session to flow. Not to worry though, I’m with you every step of the way!

A boudoir photoshoot is also another good reason to pamper yourself! Booking a spa day to soothe and relax your sore muscles can also be part of the preparations you want to consider for your session.

A quick and gentle reminder though, not all pregnancies are the same! What’s true for others may not be true for you. It’s good to consider other people’s experiences and opinions but make sure that at the end of the day, you take your cue from yourself

Again, let me guarantee you that regardless of the date you choose, you are going to look amazing. You are the star and we will celebrate the gorgeous mom-to-be that you are - curves, beautiful bump, and all!
