Is a Modest Boudoir Photoshoot Possible?

Boudoir photography is for everyone; whether you’re conservative, modest, nervous, brazen, confident or anywhere in between. This means that modest boudoir is not only possible, but it’s a beautiful way to celebrate and empower yourself; while still feeling comfortable and staying true to your values.

Your modest boudoir (or conservative boudoir) experience may look a little different depending on your level of comfortability with nudity, posing and different angles – so here are a few tips and considerations before booking your session. And remember, your photos are yours – they never have to be shared with anyone and can remain completely private. After all, most of the real magic happens during your photoshoot experience.

How to prepare for a modest boudoir shoot?

Whether you’re looking for a traditional or modest boudoir experience, it’s normal to feel nervous. However, if you are a little more conservative, I always recommend booking my Full Boudoir Suite Experience as it includes an in-person planning session and extra face-to-face time for you to ease into the idea of modest boudoir.

Not only does this package give us an unhurried hour to get to know each other and settle any pre-photoshoot jitters – but it’s the perfect time to share your level of modesty and comfort level with the different aspects of boudoir. There’s no rules when it comes to nudity or posing, so during our planning session I can make suggestions for how our session might flow, depending on the mood, vibe and level of modest boudoir you’re looking for.

What should I bring to my conservative boudoir photoshoot planning session?

If a modest boudoir shoot is important to you, I always recommend thinking about your values and boundaries before we meet. This will allow you to clearly communicate what’s important to you, what you are (and are not) comfortable with and how you want to feel during your experience. You should also bring along any outfit ideas you have so we can explore how they’ll photograph during your session, suggest alternatives and help you to decide on what to wear on the day

Outfit recommendations for a modest boudoir shoot

Outfits aside, confidence is the best thing you can wear going into a modest boudoir shoot. If you feel comfortable and confident in your outfit, you’ll be able to relax into each pose and your photos will look more natural.

Jeans and a white button up or t-shirt photograph really well – and if you’re comfortable, going braless can add a cheeky element to the photos, without feeling exposed. We can also use props such as sheets, blankets and pillows to partially (or fully) cover different parts of your body for a suggestive but modest boudoir vibe. I offer plenty more outfit ideas in my Preparation & Outfit Guide, which you’ll receive a copy of upon booking your session.
